Everyone loves dogs. That much is clear. But this act of kindness done by a cop shows just how strong the connection between humans and dogs really is.
The streets of Kolkata, India, are often flooded by heavy rainstorms. That was the case recently when Kolkata had to endure days and days of continuous rain. In those conditions, many humans and animals were left desperately searching for a safe place to hide from the storms. In that situation, Constable Tarun Kumar Mandal thought it was only fair to lend a hand to those in need.
Mandal was monitoring traffic during the storms at a busy seven-way intersection. It was then he received some company when he was approached by two strays looking for a place to hide. Naturally, the cop allowed them to find shelter under his umbrella and continued doing his job.
This might seem like a simple humane gesture, but to those dogs, it meant the world. According to people passing by, the look on the dogs’ faces said everything. They were finally happy and content.
India has one of the highest populations of strays in the world, comprised of about 35 to 40 million dogs. There’s a lot of things to do if these dogs are to get the help they deserve. Fortunately, there are good people in the world that do what they can. The Kolkata police try to step in as often as possible to rescue or otherwise help strays.
And the changes don’t always have to be big. Even small gestures can mean the world to a stray!
