Salmonella and listeria contamination in pet foods have been worryingly common this year, with countless brands issuing voluntary recalls for their products for these reasons.
Two more companies are adding more recalled items to the list now due to reports of illnesses and fatalities, with the reported illnesses spanning six for pets and two for children, and one instance of a young kitten passing away after consuming the food.
The first company is Christofersen Meats Co., which operates under the name Swanson Meats of Minneapolis, due to salmonella serotype reading contamination that resulted in the development of septicemia and osteomyelitis.
The products involved are the Raws for Paws Ground Turkey Food for Pets, which are sold in 1 pound and 5 pound tubes. Affected items will have a manufacturing date of October 12, 2017 and were packaged in the following cases:
Turkey Pet Food, codes 9900008 and 9900009
Pet Food Combo Pack, codes 9900014 and 9900015
The second company is Arrow Reliance, which has been releasing recalls since October 17, 2016, until February this year, recently put out an announcement to recall more of their products due to salmonella contamination, which resulted in multiple illnesses in pets.
The affected products are the company’s ZooLogics Duck and Vegetable Meals for Dogs, registered with lot number 41957, and ZooLogics Chicken with Vegetable Meals for Dogs, registered with lot number 41567.
