Veterinarian Reunites Injured Dog With Her Parents Who Couldn't Afford Surgery Fee

David and Sumey Hageman were at home with their new baby getting ready to have a fabulous Christmas, until something tragic happened – their 4-year-old Dachshund, Lola, had a slipped disc in her spine and became injured.

Lola's back legs became paralyzed due to the injury and required emergency surgery if she was ever going to walk again. Sadly, David and Sumey couldn't afford the surgery, which cost $6,000. Seeing that they had no options left on the table, the couple painfully decided to surrender Lola to a rescue that would pay for her surgery and find her a new family.

The rescue took Lola in and engaged the services of Dr. Michael Wong, a veterinary neurologist at the Southeast Veterinary Neurology in Miami, Florida, to perform the surgery she needed. While performing the surgery, the vet learned about Lola's story and was touched.

With Christmas on the way, Dr. Wong couldn't think of a better present to brighten the Hageman's Christmas than getting their dog back. So after performing the surgery and Lola could walk again, he told the rescue he was waiving his fees and asked that they return the pup to her original family.

The Hagemans were beyond happy to get Lola back. It was the best Christmas present ever.
