Everyone loves to renovate the house a little, change things up a bit, but when you have dogs at home, figuring out what will stay the same for years and what won’t is a challenge!
There are things you can do to stop your dogs from scratching or chewing your brand new sofa or bed. We know that dogs scratch and chew when they’re bored so while chew toys and basic training may help, we can’t avoid accidents. So, when it’s time to renovate your house, here’s what you should know:
- Get leather – with leather you can easily wipe spills, however, leather does get costly. If leather is out of budget, look for microsuede.
- Avoid hide rugs – spills can damage hide rugs and dogs can have a difficult time differentiating between a hide rug and their rawhide chew.
- Consider Caesarstone – not only does the countertop look and feel rich, it’ll spare you from chipping and scratching.
- Avoid hardwood – although most people prefer hardwood, it is difficult to maintain as it has to be resanded at some point. If you want to have hardwood floors, make sure your dog’s nails are kept short and that any liquid spillage and accidents are cleaned immediately.
- Get ornamental grass – if you love to incorporate greenery, look for ornamental grass because you won’t have to worry about your dog digging it all up. You don’t even have to law it!
