In the past week, it has been reported that a possible case of highly contagious and fatal dog flu might have infected all the dogs at the shelter. Until at least Wednesday next week, the shelter will be closed down.
Here’s A Video And More Details On The Alert On Possible Dog Flu
Currently no dogs have gotten sick, however, one dog came down with a possible case of dog flu on Sunday morning, which led to him being put to sleep. Although dog flu hasn’t yet been confirmed, concerned vets are now treating all other dogs at the shelter with necessary antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
Clayton County’s Acting Police Chief Michael Register said, “If they’ve taken an animal from the shelter and that animal becomes lethargic or has diarrhea, please seek medical attention as soon as possible.” As soon as the test results of the dog who was put to sleep are back, only then will the animal control personnel decide whether it is safe for the facilities to reopen.
