It’s scientifically proven that interacting with dogs and cats can improve a person’s spirits and help patients suffering from serious conditions.
That’s why there are a lot of charity organizations around the world that take pets to care homes and other institutions, so that they can bring a bit of sunshine in the patients’ lives.
One such organization is TheraPaws. Based in London, England, TheraPaws has visited over 40 homes in London to date! They bring pooches over to the homes and they help the patients interact with them – and the effects are visible.
As soon as the pups walk through the doors, the patients’ faces light up. They become more chatty and excited and it’s as if they’re a few years younger. One patient describes how seeing a dog instantly makes her happy and suddenly the world doesn’t seem as dark and uninviting anymore. It’s truly a heartwarming sight.
In one of the truly endearing encounters, a pooch was brought over to a woman, who hadn’t spoken, eaten, or interacted with her family in three days. The instant she saw the dog, the lady spoke about their encounter and afterwards had a full meal and spent a great day with her family. Her relatives were grateful beyond belief – it was all thanks to the friendly pooch.
