A Westminster Shelter Has 78 Pups Who're Looking For Their Forever Loving Homes

Westminster Adoption Group and Services (WAGS), a nonprofit group in Westminster, recently took in 78 French and English bulldogs after they were seized from a breeder.

Cortney Dorney, the shelter manager, reported that all the dogs suffering from some sort of ailment, including burns to their feet, mange, and ear, eye, and skin infections. All the dogs were signed over to the shelter, and they are all ready to be adopted. The dogs range in age from 5 months to 11 years, and all will be spayed or neutered before they are sent to their new homes.

The animals will be expensive to care for, so part of the application process will be a credit check. WAGS has never used a credit check in the application process before. Dorney said that they want to make sure the dogs will be well cared for by the families that adopt them. Typically, English and French bulldogs have chronic skin issues and can get eye and ear infections. The breeds are also prone to getting respiratory infections.

Ever since the news broke about the dogs, the shelter has received hundreds of phone calls, many callers are being turned away until the credit check has been completed. The shelter is offering the adult dogs for $500 (they usually cost $3,500). The puppies less than eight months are being sold for $800. The reason for the high adoption fee is the strain the 78 animals put on shelter resources. All the dogs were given exams, medications, and vaccines.
