We are sure that most dog parents arent very eager to go and check their pup’s poop in the yard, but sometimes, it’s crucial. Picking up after your dogs is very important, to not only be a responsible dog parent but also to gain some insight into their health.
Many vets say that a dog’s poop is a measure of their health, similar to that of a urine sample or blood exam. A dog’s poop is vital to giving health clues about its digestive function.
If you do decide to take a look at your dog’s fecal matter, there are a few things you should look for. If their stool is brown, firm, and a bit moist, then your dog’s health is normal. But, with this, if your dog goes to the bathroom countless times a day and the stool looks running, there might be a deeper issue. If their poop is soft, bloody, green, or discolored, then it could show signs of digestion issues.
Black stool can mean that there is a bigger issue, that could stem from the stomach or small intestine. If blood is getting digested and clotting, coming out in the fecal matter, then a vet needs to be called. Dog parents must also look for foreign objects within the fecal matter as well. Finding weird objects in stool isn’t common, but can sometimes show signs of other conditions if not dealt with accordingly. Along with examining the stools, other signs of digestive issues, such as gas or constipation are also important to look for.
