What To Do When Your Dog Barks Excessively

Dogs are some of the cutest animals on the face of the Earth. But one of the less pleasant parts about them is when they bark excessively.

While you can’t expect your dog to never bark at all, there are some things you can do to make sure that you keep the barking at an acceptable level.

Barking is the language of dogs. They use it to signal when they need something, to greet each other, or to warn other dogs to back off. But when your dog barks non-stop, it can become disruptive. It can keep you from being focused, from resting, or it can even land you in trouble with the neighbors. Often, dogs bark because they are bored, frustrated, or afraid. And, the treatment differs based on the root cause of the barking.

If you want to tackle fear barking, you need to consider desensitization as a treatment. This process consists of removing anxiety around the negative stimuli that trigger their fears. When you notice that your dog is afraid of something, you need to slowly introduce that stimulus in their life, while rewarding them when they don’t bark.

If you are dealing with boredom barking, the best remedy is to get plenty of exercise in your dog’s schedule. When they are tired, they are more likely to go to sleep, and less likely to bark just to pass time. And, for dogs who bark out of frustration, you need to get rid of anything that could potentially trigger that feeling.
