When You Can't Take Your Dog On A Trip With You (Part 3)

In the last two articles, we talking about boarding your dog at a kennel, boarding at a local vet or in someone’s house, but what if you want someone to stay overnight at your home to look after your dog?

Hiring a pet sitter

While some sitters wouldn’t mind spending the night at your home, others may drop by to feed and play with your dog. According to experts, sitters should visit pets at least twice a day so they can note a change in the dog’s health if they’re sick. Sitters who don’t visit frequently won’t know if the dog is sick because they’re experts at hiding illnesses. Here are some questions you need to ask your pet sitter:

  1. Do you have insurance?
  2. Do you charge per visit or per day?
  3. Can I check in with you once a day? How?
  4. How will you send me updates? By email or messages?

So which option is best for you?

Well, it all depends on you and your personal preference. If your dog is comfortable at home and you don’t mind someone dropping by to check in on them, to feed them and to play with them, then hiring a pet sitter might be the best option for you. On the other hand, if someone you know is willing to board your dog at their home so you don’t have to worry about boarding them at a kennel or at your local vet hospital, then after a thorough examination, that might be the best route.
