Get a dog they said, it will be great they said, but they never prepare you for the spontaneous leaks your dog takes pretty much anywhere he/she can get to!
Sure, it’s been great building this bond, but the smell alone is enough to make any dog parent go crazy! Let’s talk about it.
Why Your Dog Pees Everywhere
If you have a designated spot in your home for your dog to pee in, or if he/she has access to the outdoors, why not pee there? Why does he/she choose to go everywhere?
Well, it could be a result of a medical condition, typically a urinary disease such as bladder stones or Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs). It can also be a result of biological processes in the body, leading to an increase in hormones, such as puberty, which can cause behavioral issues.
How To Fix It
Well, if your dog has not been neutered, you may consider it as an option for behavioral issues. Alternately, you may try positive reinforcement training, where you reward your dog for peeing in the right spots, which will encourage proper behavior. Crate training is a popular method you should look into.
If you suspect the issue is medical, bring up the issue with your dog’s regular veterinarian to find out a solution.
If your dog does not pee when scared, or excited, but is rather relaxed or bored, consult a dog behaviorist. He/she will guide you on how to bring more excitement to your dog through activities such as walking, puzzle games, and even additional playtime.
