Woman Moved Out Of Apartment When Landlord Discriminated Against Her Pitbull

Cierra lived in an apartment complex that was advertised as pet-friendly. However, she soon realized it came with limitations – some buildings allowed only small pets like fish, while others allowed cats or dogs but with limits on breed and weight.

Cierra’s building allowed dogs, but with a weight limit that she thought was high enough. So, when she saw an advertisement that an 8-week-old Pitbull was up for sale, she decided to take the offer. She named the dog Nilla and got her settled in her apartment before informing her landlord. Since the building’s policy allowed dogs, she figured her landlord wouldn’t have a problem with her dog.

However, things took a new turn when her landlord discovered the dog was a Pitbull. According to some sources, insurance companies often refuse to cover incidents involving “aggressive” dog breeds, like bullies. While a landlord may be okay with such dogs, the landlord would be held responsible if there were an incident because their insurance company won’t cover it.

Cierra had to choose between moving out of the apartment or getting rid of her new pup. Although she had only had her for a week, Cierra felt attached to Nilla and refused to get rid of her.

Thankfully, they found a more friendly rental a few blocks away from their original apartment and moved in there. Cierra and Nilla are inseparable now. According to Cierra, they even sleep in the same bed!
