Brianna Hagood was going for the surprise weekend getaway her husband, Tyler, organized for her birthday when they stopped at a McDonald’s drive-through and noticed a dog wandering around the parking lot.
Hagood notified her husband, but he urged her to leave the dog and focus on their weekend. She almost gave in but remembered she could save him if she wanted because “it was my birthday.” So, she went and met the dog. On seeing her, he started wagging his tail.
The couple asked around whether anyone knew who the dog’s parents were, but no one knew. They took him to a vet clinic to check whether he was microchipped, but he wasn’t. So, they made arrangements for him to join them in their hotel.
The next day, they all went out to enjoy the birthday festivities. Luckily, the dog’s family found them through Hagood’s post on social media. When they went to drop him off with his family, they learned the dog’s name was Blu, and he had escaped from home while they were at work.
Later that week, the dog’s family got in touch with Hagood to see whether she’d be willing to adopt him since things weren’t working for him with them. She gladly accepted the offer.
“He stays right by my hip at all times … He is the bestest boy, and we love him,” Hagood said.
