Woman Takes Three Dogs To A Pond For A Playdate, Hours Later They Died From Toxic Algae

There is nothing as joyful as watching our beloved furry-faced family members running thrillingly through ponds of water. It is often a major source of entertainment for both them and us and can be the highlight of their walks.

This is especially true in the summertime when the weather is hot and the sun beats down on us during our walks. Our dogs immediately seek the closest pool of water to drink out of or dip themselves into. Although sometimes a bit green, we unclip their leashes and let them run free. The question is, do we actually know how safe the water is? Should we let our furry-faced friends run in them? An eye-opening encounter in North Carolina might provide insight into our questions.

Melissa and Denise Martin took their three pooches to swim in the local doggy pond on a hot day. Abby, Izzy, and Harpo were ready to cool off and jumped in without giving it a second thought.

Enjoying their swim, the three shook off any greenery and were well on there way home. About fifteen minutes later, the two ladies noticed that Abby began seizing. Terrified, the ladies raced her to the vet hospital immediately.

By the time they arrived, the two others started seizing too. All three dogs were in poor condition and the race was on to save their lives. Unfortunately, they did not make it and the vet had informed the ladies that it was due to a toxic blue-green algal bloom from the water in the pond. Devastated, the ladies now make it their mission to put up signs in areas where these toxic blooms may occur.

This heartbreaking story is a real eye-opener to us and reminds us to pay special attention to where we let our four-legged friends swim.
