10 Dog Parenting Tips To Help You Keep Your Dogs Super Happy! (Part 1)

We all want our dogs to be healthy and happy for the rest of their beautiful lives. As dog parents, we do so much to keep them happy, we buy expensive toys, get them exotic drinks, play dress-up… the list goes on. But it’s the simple things that really work wonders! Here are some dog parenting tips to help you keep your dogs happy!

1. Take them out for their daily walks, but keep in mind the weather around you

Dogs need their daily exercise because it keeps them healthy and helps them keep their excess energy in check. Apart from health reasons, walking with your dog helps you bond with them too. So when it’s too hot or too cold outside, remember to put their booties on because hot pavements can burn their paw pads and cold ones can give them sores. How do you know if the pavements are too hot or too cold? I always check to see if I can walk barefoot outside. If I can’t, neither can my dog! Oh, and remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s cold for your dog too. Like you wear a sweater or a jacket, give your dog one too!

2. Play puzzles with your dog

An active mind is equal to a healthy mind, which is equal to a healthy body! Playing puzzles with your dog helps keep their minds active and sharp. Dogs who love food can play treasure hunt or food puzzles whereas dogs who aren’t motivated by food can do the agility training! Dogs love puzzles and it’s up to you to give them that opportunity!

3. Obedience training

This may sound basic, but dogs need their obedience training so they’re able to drain their excess energy without harming themselves or others. You can either train them yourself or hire a trainer who can teach your dog some basic training. Once they’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to teach them advanced training. Take it slow, and remember, each dog learns at his own pace.

4. Play with your dog!

In case you didn’t know, your dog loves to spend each and every second with you! A game of fetch or Frisbee is all he needs to drain the excess energy and to spend quality playtime with you!

5. Remember to be consistent

Dogs love to follow a timetable! They thrive on consistency! If you don’t want your dogs to sit on the couch, make sure you tell them that and stick to it. Following it one day and not following on another will only confuse them. Keeping a schedule for your dogs to follow will keep you and your dog happy for years to come!
