Like humans, dogs too can catch allergies pretty easily. Breeds like retrievers, bulldogs, terriers, and setters are more prone to a variety of allergies than other dogs. Here are 10 dog allergies that you probably didn’t know about.

1. Pollen

Airborne pollen from grass, trees, flowers, and weeds can cause an allergic reaction and leave your dogs with itchy and inflamed skin, especially around the ears and paws.

2. Mold

Mold can cause skin irritation in dogs and is the most common allergy that dogs experience. In order to prevent this, make sure you check your house for mold and clean those areas thoroughly. Installing dehumidifiers can help clear out the air too.

3. Human and animal dander

Dander also causes an allergic reaction in dogs leaving them with itchy and/or inflamed skin. Your dog may also sneeze and have a runny nose. In order to treat dander allergy, take your dog to the vet and he will be prescribed allergy shots or oral drops.

4. Feathers

Feathers can also cause an allergic reaction in dogs. While you may not have a pet bird, a comforter or pillow with feathers is all it takes to rile up the allergy.

5. Smoke

Smoking near dogs can leave them exposed to second-hand smoke which can cause allergy to dogs leaving them with itchy and inflamed skin.
