10 Ways to Be a Responsible Dog Parent

Having a dog is a huge responsibility that you should take seriously. If you are considering getting a new dog, here are some tips on being good dog parents.

1. Be ready to commit

Before you adopt a dog, ensure you are ready to commit to the financial, emotional, and time requirements.

2. Buy all they need in advance

Purchase everything they need before bringing them home, including food, treats, grooming tools, toys, etc.

3. Dog-proof your house

Ensure you put away anything harmful or toxic to dogs.

4. Make a bed

Select an area in your home and create a comfortable space for them to sleep and have some privacy.

5. Choose a veterinarian

Provide your veterinarian with copies of the dog’s health records, and set up a vaccination and check-up schedule.

6. Give time to adjust

Show them their bed, where to find food and water, and leave them to adjust to their new environment.

7. Set house rules

As soon as your dog arrives home, it would be best if you started teaching them what behaviors are acceptable or not.

8. Exercise regularly

Take your dog for regular walks, and play games to stimulate their mind and body.

9. Feed them healthy diet

Follow your vet's diet suggestions and provide plenty of fresh, clean water.

10. Get them microchipped
