10-year-old Diabetic Boy Raises Money For Diabetic Alert Dog

Alexander Wilcox was diagnosed with diabetes Type 1 two years ago. It involved periods of extreme illness, throwing up, and mad dashes to the bathroom.

This new reality was tough on both Alexander and his mother since they had to become accustomed to frequent monitoring and placing a microscope on what he eats. Many people don’t know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, which Alexander has, is an autoimmune cognition where his body attacks his pancreas with its own antibodies.

His damaged pancreas does not produce any insulin. The other type of diabetes or Type 2 diabetes means the pancreas produces some insulin, but it is not enough or the body is resistant to it. This is the type of diabetes many obese persons develop. Alexander hopes to make his life easier by getting a diabetic alert dog.

These dogs are highly trained in recognizing when their parents have low or high blood pressure. His strategy is hosting a roadside magic booth and lemonade stands where he performs and sells lemonade on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 am till it gets dark. His sister and his friends also help out by selling lemonade and baked goods.

Alexander doesn’t mind sharing the details of his condition and how a diabetic alert dog would help him. So far, he has raised $200 which is still a far way from $500. If you wish to donate, he has a PayPal account. You can also see him at 3511 East 665 North in Menan.

He awaits your support!
