When Annie lost her ability to walk or eat, her family decided to turn her over to a shelter. They gave up on her even though she was 19 years old and nearing the end of her life. Lauren Siler knew she had to help when she saw Annie's adorable little sad face in a photo the shelter posted on Instagram.
Lauren enquired about Annie and learned that although a rescue had taken her in, she still needed a foster home. So she asked her roommate, Lisa, whether it was okay to bring a dog home, and then she went to pick her up. To help Annie enjoy her remaining time, Lauren and Lisa decided to start a bucket list for her.
In addition to enjoying hamburgers from In-N-Out and Whataburger thus far, Annie has celebrated her birthday with a party and had a professional picture shoot. She also celebrated Valentine's Day in August and Christmas in July. She received cards and gifts from people all over the world, many of whom later became her biggest Instagram admirers.
Four months after being given just one month to live by the doctors, Annie is still having a good time. As she crosses off items on her bucket list, she will continue to get the affection and attention she deserves.
Lauren and Lisa hope that sharing Annie's tale will inspire others to foster, adopt, or rescue senior dogs.
