3 Indoor Exercises To Keep Your Dog Healthy When It's Cold Outside!

When the weather outside is unforgiving, exercising your dog or taking them out for their daily walk becomes a challenge. Many dogs still enjoy themselves with their parents out in the snow, but if you and your dog are among those who like to keep warm, here are three exercises that’ll keep them entertained!

1. Hide and Seek!

Isn’t this everyone’s favorite? Hide a few treats around the house and let your dog find them with his nose! If he’s able to find most of his treats, it might be time to look into nose work, a game that can be played both indoors and outdoors… and it’s tons of fun!

2. Use the stairs!

If you have stairs at home, start walking up and down the stairs and encourage your dog to do so too! Walking up and down helps build strength and keeps you healthy too. If you think your dog will be easily bored, teach your dog to walk backward on the stairs or on a ramp. Dr. Cindy Otto from Penn Vet Working Dog Center says, “Anything that involves backing is really good for dogs.

3. Roll over!

Most of us don’t realize but rolling over is a great exercise for dogs as it helps build their strength. If your dog knows how to roll over, ask him to roll over three times in each direction. Want to join in? The more the better!
