3 More Common Questions That People Ask About Having A New Puppy

In our last article, we covered three questions that dog parents may have when bringing home a new puppy. In this article, we’re going to cover three more questions for new or seasoned dog parents!

Here are three more questions answered!

1. When can I begin training my puppy?

If your vet thinks that your puppy is ready to begin training, there’s absolutely no reason to wait! Start with housebreaking them and begin training by teaching them simple commands like “sit” and “stay” and stop him from chewing or mouthing by giving them toys, chews and a healthy amount of exercise.

2. As far as vaccinations are concerned, which ones does my puppy need?

Puppies should get all core vaccines which include rabies virus, canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus-2 (hepatitis) and canine parvovirus. Your vet will be able to give you a vaccine schedule that you need to follow to keep your puppy healthy. Also, your vet will tell you about optional vaccines that you can give your puppy.

3. When should I neuter or spay my puppy?

The general rule of thumb is to neuter or spay your puppy before they reach sexual maturity which happens when they’re about five or six months old. Talk to your vet to find out when is the best time to neuter or spay your puppy to avoid early/unwanted offspring.
