Every time a noise rings outside, your dog barks and barks. Why does this happen? How can you stop or change this?
Common Causes
- Anxiety. A frightened or stressed out dog may bark at everything they see.
- Excitement. An overly excited dog may pick on sounds that they like, and in their glee, they may bark loudly.
- Guarding. A dog who is a loyal guard to your home may be trying to defend it constantly.
- A Herd. Are other dogs in the neighborhood barking? Then your dog may want to join in.
How To Correct Constant Barking
Step 1: Ignore It
When you shout at your dog for barking, they just think that you’re helping or joining in with your barking fun. When you cuddle a barking dog, they learn that barking gets a reward.
Step 2: Counter-Condition
Find noises you can play or make at a quiet-enough volume for your dog to not react to it. Then, when the noise plays and they are quiet, give them a reward.
Step 3: Ask For Help
If these methods are not working, don’t be afraid to reach out to a professional trainer for assistance. They know how to deal with this kind of problem!
