7 Easy Ways To Keep Fleas Out During Warmer Months

Fleas can be very annoying, especially during warmer months – and even more so when they attempt to infest your dogs! But you can help keep these nasty little pests at bay with some simple tips. Here are 7 ways that you can keep fleas out!

1. Groom

Grooming is absolutely crucial to a dog’s hygiene and, therefore, their resistance against fleas. Use shampoos that you know work for your dog and consider investing in a good flea comb if necessary.

2. Diatomaceous Earth

Known also as DE, this all-natural substance comes in a fine powder that you can rub into your dog’s fur, as well as into carpets, rugs, and other similar items. Make sure no one is inhaling this white substance, though, as that can be toxic!

3. Citronella

This natural item is well-known for shooing away bugs of all kinds. Buy it in a dog-safe spray and spritz it over anything that may have fleas in it!

4. Keep Bedding Clean

Where does your dog like to sleep? Whatever your answer is, make sure you’re washing those places regularly! Blankets, beds, pillows, rugs… these all need regular cleaning to keep fleas away.

5. Brewer’s Yeast

Add one teaspoon of brewer’s yeast in powder form to your canine companion’s meals. This will help reduce discomfort and keep fleas away while you work on getting rid of an infestation.

6. Weekly Vacuuming

Vacuum every single week in order to keep furniture clean. Don’t forget that rugs and carpets often harbor pests perfectly. When you’re done, throw out the vacuum trash bag far away, or the fleas may break out again!

7. Traps

If you use them right, flea traps can help keep adult fleas away. You can make them yourself with a light source and liquid substance or buy them in stores. Do note that they are most effective when used with other flea-control methods!
