A Fun Lively Look At Why Dachshunds Were Bred And What The Different Coats Are For!

This video is a fun lively look at the reasons dachshunds were bred and how brilliant they are at doing their job. There’s information in here I’ve never heard before.

Of course, we all know that dachshunds were bred to go underground into those dark tunnels to tussle with the badgers. Badgers, incidentally, outweigh the dachshund by at least 5 pounds, but they can weigh as much as 40 lbs which is at least 2x the size of your typical doxie.

No wonder these little guys are the bravest of the brave and never know when to back off!

One interesting thing I didn’t know though is the three coats aren’t just for show – smooth, long haired, and wire haired all have specific situations they were bred for depending on the terrain they would be used in.
