A dog in Indianapolis is now homeless after her dad left her tied to a tree. Poor girl must have thought they were just on their usual walk only to realize later that she would never be seeing her dad again.
But what was even more disheartening was the ‘abandonment note’ found attached to the dog’s collar. It was from the dad citing his reasons for abandoning her.
“I was a spoiled girl, my dad gave me my own couch to lay on and my own memory foam bed,” the note read. “My dad lost his job and soon his home from COVID.”
It’s quite clear that the dad is at a bad place financially and I can only imagine what abandoning his dog did to him emotionally. Still, leaving the dog tied to a tree was not the best thing to do. Something that Michael Delp, the director of Johnston County Animal Control, agrees with.
“My heart certainly goes out to that individual,” Delp said. “However, to release a dog out in the middle of nowhere that’s just not the way to go about it. There’s all kinds of things that could happen to this animal. Struck by a vehicle or attacked by other animals.”
Delp also disclosed that since the pandemic hit, there have been increased cases of people abandoning their dogs. Roadie, as is the name of the dog, is safely at the county animal shelter and will be up for adoption soon.
