Sidewalk Specials recently rescued a sweet pup found in the Groendal township in the Western Cape region of South Africa.
According to the rescuers, the dog happily wagged his tail when they arrived and was eager to share a piece of stale bread he had by his side, despite being maltreated by humans.
Although rescuers described the dog, later named Gunnar, as a dog who had an “absolutely positive attitude,” all was not well with his health. “Gunnar’s anemic and suffering from tick bite fever, having one of the worst worm and tick infestations we’ve seen. He also has an eye infection requiring attention,” Sidewalk Specials wrote on Facebook.
Gunnar was taken to the vet immediately for medical attention, and after a week of getting treated, he recovered fully and was cleared for adoption. Less than two weeks after he was released from the vet, a family adopted him.
Gunnar’s new family loves him dearly. His mom described him as their “little rockstar.” While his dad fondly described him as “naturally friendly and inquisitive,” adding that “He’s still the same happy, little creature.”
Due to his positive attitude, he did not have any trouble fitting well into his new family immediately after arriving in their home.
