After Spending A Year Alone, Terrified Dog Rescued From Landfill

Animal rescues always try to do their best and help as many animals as they can. But often, their resources are stretched thin. There just aren’t enough volunteers to search for every needy dog.

And there aren’t enough people who call in when they spot a stray dog or cat. Because of issues like these, a German Sheperd had to spend a year living in a landfill in California.

One day, some workers at the landfill called a Hope For Paws and informed them of the stray Sheperd, who had been abandoned along with two smaller dogs. Rescuers drove two hours to reach the landfill and spent 30 minutes looking for the Sheperd, who was hiding under cars. The smaller dogs were elated to see help coming, but the Sheperd wouldn’t allow people near him.

Whenever the rescuers approached him, he ran away. After an hour, they managed to lure him into a crate by offering him food. Rescuers named him Andrew and took him to CARES to get an examination and a bath. Andrew is one or two years old, and he had never lived in a loving environment. Because of how delicate his situation was, LA Animal Rescue stepped in and offered to foster Andrew.

He needed special care, and the volunteers from this rescue could offer him that. A month after arriving at LA Animal Rescue, his initial rescuers stopped by for a visit. They were welcomed by a totally different dog. He was happy to see them and didn’t shy away from cuddles.

Andrew is now ready to find a home to call his own. After everything he’s been through, he deserves some peace and happiness.
