Lilly Rose was born with a combination of multiple structural abnormalities in the heart. The condition in humans is called “blue baby syndrome,” referring to the color babies turn from lack of oxygen in the blood. People noticed something wasn’t quite right when she would have to stop mid-play to sit or lay down and catch her breath. Lucky for her, she found help.
Lilly lives under the care of an Iowa-based organization called Critter Crusaders, which provides medical care for animals without homes. With their help, she got the life-changing surgery which according to the surgeons, often lets dogs like Lilly Rose still live 6-7 years and be the playful pups they are meant to be.
