Katie is barely a year old, but she’s experienced countless different exciting events. The dog, who hails from Edgerton, Missouri, was born with a superficial liver shunt, which is a rare birth defect.
In July, she underwent expensive surgery and aftercare in order to correct the condition.
Before the surgery, Katie’s Mom and Dad, Ronnie and Debbie Pack, decided to create a bucket list so that she could experience as many things as possible before undergoing this potentially dangerous surgery. With 33 items on the list, it went viral online and Katie became a local celebrity in Smithville – so much as that a week in summer was dedicated to her by the Mayor, designated Katie Week!
A GoFundMe page helped to fund Katie’s adventures, and she was able to ride on a helicopter, an airplane, and a Gondola. She also got to go to a concert and see a musical production. And she only turned a year old this month!
Luckily, Katie’s surgery went well. Her Mom is proud of the dog and is also hoping that the bucket list idea will become more than just a town sensation, but a nationwide one, too. She was inspired by Katie’s journey and hopes that others could find similar inspiration in her story, too.
