Maggie is one of the most amazing dogs out there. She is a therapy dog and lives a happy life with her family in Brighton. But things weren’t always good for her. At the start of her life, she had to endure unimaginable trauma.
As a young pup living in Lebanon, she suffered daily abuse as she was being used as target practice. Her owner, Kasey Carlin, shared that she used to be tied up and shot with a BB gun. She had about 200 pellets in her body, with most being concentrated in her face. After suffering all that abuse, she was left blind, with a missing ear and a broken jaw.
Fortunately, she was rescued by the Wild At Heart Foundation. She was quickly adopted by Kasey and moved to the UK. Kasey put Maggie in training to become a therapy dog. In July 2019, after passing her course, she became a certified therapy dog. Before the pandemic, Maggie worked with many people, especially dementia patients. She also made visits to police officers, firefighters, and school kids. When the pandemic hit, she had to stop seeing her patients. Fortunately, as soon as restriction eased, she went back to work. After a year without seeing Anne, her favorite patient, Maggie finally got the opportunity to see her.
And she knew exactly where she was going. Even blind, she could lead anyone straight to Anne’s room. Anne always has a biscuit tin in her room for Maggie. She also has a plushie with only one ear and no eyes, a Maggie jumper, and a lot of photos of the two of them together. As soon as Kasey and Maggie began walking towards Anne, the pup knew exactly where they were going. Even blind, she could lead anyone straight to Anne’s room.
Kasey is very vocal about the sufferings of some dogs, and she tries to bring awareness about adopting dogs with disabilities. She is the best parent Maggie could have, and the dog couldn’t be happier with her new life.
