Blind Rescue Dog Finds Dream Home After 15 Months At Shelter

Shelter staff typically hope to find rescue dogs a foster home or forever home as soon as possible. However, things don't always go as fast as they want.

In kill shelters, it can be a dangerous problem as dogs who can't find a home fast are put to sleep. On the other hand, in no-kill shelters, they are left to live in kennels for months until someone comes along to adopt them, or they cross the rainbow bridge naturally.

A 5-year-old blind Collie, Jacko, arrived at Many Tears Animal Rescue with dreams of finding a forever home quickly. The days slowly turned into weeks and months, yet Jacko remained in the kennel.

In a post the rescue shared on Facebook, they described Jacko as "very cuddly and loving with those he knows, but can be mistrustful of those he doesn't know."

The rescue was determined to find Jacko a forever home, but not just any home, a home where he'd be a perfect fit. They wrote that Jacko wanted to "live with one special person as an only dog and would prefer a rural home with a large garden where he can run free."

It took 15 months, but Jacko finally found his dream home. Sharing the good news on TikTok, the rescue wrote: "Jacko now gets to run free in his very own field, with his very own human. Every single day!"
