One 12-year-old boy in Mexico, Andres, recently made a tough decision to give up his puppy, and he did it for the most compassionate reason. Andres left his puppy in a box outside the Xollin animal shelter.
In a post the shelter shared on Facebook, they disclosed that Andres left his puppy with a stuffed animal and a heartbreaking letter explaining that he took the decision because his father was abusing the dog.
"My name is Andrés and I'm 12-years-old. My mom and I decided to leave him to you. All of this is behind my dad's back, because he was thinking of selling him. But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won't forget me," the letter read.
A spokesperson with the shelter told The Mirror that when they took the puppy, now named Rene, to the vet, they discovered he had a fractured tail and needed medical attention. However, his overall health was good, and he is adjusting well to his new life.
The shelter described Rene as "greedy, playful and loving" in a Facebook post. They said he goes by the nickname "baby pig" because of his personality.
