Brave Father Rescuing His Dog Needed Rescuing Himself

One thing rescuers will always tell civilians is to never try doing the rescuing themselves. Oftentimes, they will end up needing rescuing themselves because they aren’t trained to do so. They can also make the job more difficult than it needs to be.

Well, love is a strong emotion, and parents will go to any lengths for their children. This New York man proved just how much he loved his dog, even though it meant putting his life at risk.

This took place on Saturday near 43rd Street and 12th Avenue. His dog had accidentally fallen in and in a valiant effort to save the dog from drowning, he ended up being stuck in the water. He could not bring himself out of the water onto dry land.

When the NYPD’s Harbor and Emergency Service responded to the call, they were just in time to see the man struggling in the water with his dog. They were both towed to shore as the man held him closely. They were given immediate medical care. The team was proud to announce that they were both expected to have a speedy recovery and had no serious injuries. The man was treated at the nearby Mount Sinai West Hospital.

If you are ever in an emergency situation, always try to wait for professionals where possible. Many of us would have gone in without hesitation, but this situation could have gone worse, especially if the man was not pulled out of the freezing water as soon as he was.
