Most dogs love going to the dog park. But is your dog’s outing to such a place actually dangerous for them?
Here are 4 ways that this may be the case:
1. Dog Park Structure
A good dog park should be big enough to comfortably house a good number of dogs. Find out when the busiest hours are and go during the quieter ones. The surrounding structure should also be fenced in well to prevent escapes. It’s even better if there are separate sections for large and small dogs!
2. Health Issues
No matter what, exposing your dog to other dogs – or just to the great outdoors in general – is going to come with its share of health risks. You should be aware of the risks of parasites, infectious diseases, heatstroke, insect bites, and injuries. Make sure your dog is up-to-date on preventative care and vaccinations!
3. Aggression
Your dog may react negatively to some other dogs, and other dogs may react negatively to your dog. Aggression in the form of resource and toy guarding, fear, possessiveness, and too-rough play can all pose threats.
4. Bad Dog Parents
Unfortunately, not all dog parents are responsible. Some may not be aware of what their dog does, or they may not have trained them to overcome behavioral problems. Make sure you keep an eye on your dog at all times.
