Dog parents from around the world wonder if their dogs would recognize them in a picture, well, the answer is going to surprise you!
Of course, dogs can recognize you with their noses, but what if they saw a picture of you, would they be able to smell you and tell you apart? Bluntly put, if there are four siblings who have similar faces, but only one of them has a dog, can the dog recognize their parent through a picture?
According to a study in the Journal of Vision, dogs who spent two hours with a single handler for six months had an 88.2% chance of recognizing their handler, but this doesn’t mean that dogs are always able to recognize their parents through pictures. According to experts, if the parent looks dramatically different in the photo than in real life, chances are their dogs will be confused and have trouble identifying them.
So for instance, if you have a beard, but you show your dog a picture of you without a beard, the chances of your dog recognizing you are slim, not completely impossible, though. Then again, if you show a picture where your face is partially covered, your dog will have trouble identifying you. Experts claim that dogs have a better chance of recognizing you in photos if you look like you look in real life, and if your face isn’t covered or obstructed.
Now, if dogs can identify their parents through pictures, can they identify other dogs?
