We humans often develop incredibly strong bonds with our dogs. This to the extent that we often insist on caring for them ourselves and find it difficult to relinquish them to someone else, even if it’s just for a few hours.
Our canine companions genuinely are an extension of ourselves and so we are understandably distressed if something bad happens to them. A perfect example of this is the devastating experience of a pet parent from Madison Township, Ohio. Tina Bradley’s Yorkshire terrier Lacey, was already fifteen years old (imagine how strong their bond must have been), when she decided to take her to local groomer, Andra Edison, who had recently opened her own business after being a casualty of lockdown.
Leaving Lacey in the groomer’s capable hands (or so she thought), she waited at home for her to be dropped off. To Tina’s horror, when Lacey arrived home she was whimpering and couldn’t walk. Faced with an obvious emergency, Tina wasted no time but raced off to the vet to get Lacey seen to. On investigation it was found that Lacey had bruising around her head and neck and had broken ribs which affected her lungs. Poor Lacey was in such a terrible condition that the most merciful solution was for her to be euthanized.
It was later established that Edison had forcibly restrained Lacey with her entire body weight and held her so tightly that the leash caused extensive bruising. Edison was later charged with cruelty to animals, and rightfully so!
