Dogs love petting, particularly belly rubs, because it feels good. A dog recently interrupted a professional football match because he wanted to get some belly rubs.
The match was between the women’s team of Chile and Venezuela in La Granja, Spain. The dog, a black labrador, ran into the pitch around 35 minutes into the game to meet the players.
Usually, when dogs run into a pitch, they want to get the ball. However, in this case, the dog didn’t want anything to do with the ball. Instead, he wanted to get some belly rub from the players.
Thankfully, the players didn’t disappoint him as they paused their game to grant his wish. The dog ran around the pitch, meeting different players and getting as many belly rubs and pets from them as possible. Eventually, they escorted the dog off the pitch, but it was worth it as he had gotten what he wanted and more.
Some dogs have been socialized well enough to respond to friendly gestures from strangers. However, that is not the case for all dogs. Some dogs may find strangers petting intrusive. When you see someone walking a friendly-looking dog, don’t assume it is okay to walk up and pet them. Instead, ask the dog’s parent for permission.
