Dogs are widely described as "man's best friend." Throughout history, there are numerous tales about how dogs showed up for humans in times of need and, in some cases, saved their lives.
The story of one man, Derik Hodgson, is another amazing story showing how dogs are the most loyal and helpful companion one can ask for.
Hodgson is a 71-year-old man with an 11-year-old Lab/Rottweiler mix named Badger. He rescued the dog when he was an abandoned puppy in the woods, and since then, they have lived together in Hodgson's remote cabin up in Elgin, Ontario.
Over the years, Hodgson and Badger became so close that they would often go on adventures together. While out in the woods one day during the middle of winter, Hodgson fell and broke his leg.
He was flat out on his back in pain and was quickly losing consciousness due to the freezing temperatures. Luckily, Badger was at the scene to help his dad. Hodgson recalls Badger coming up to him and grabbing hold of his collar.
He instructed the dog to "mush," and Badger started dragging him through a steep incline back to their home. At the comfort of their home, Hodgson called 911 for help.
