Many people are excited and joyful when they welcome puppies or young dogs into their homes. Despite needing a lot of care, puppies are incredibly cute and laid back.
But eventually, every puppy grows into a dog, and not everyone takes that into account. As a result, some dog parents forsake their dogs because they are not ready to care for a dog after they outgrow the beautiful puppy stage.
Even though adult dogs at shelters have difficulty finding forever homes, senior dogs have it even harder. Shelter dogs deemed "old" often spend their final days, weeks, or years in cement cubes at a shelter or rescue while they wait for a home.
Due to the loss of the family they have known and loved their entire lives, older dogs may struggle with abandonment and behavioural problems. However, some older dogs, like Victor, who is 10 years old, simply need someone to give them a chance.
Victor's parents surrendered him to Sidewalk Specials in South Africa because he was "too old." The rescuers were happy to help the pup find a loving retirement home to spend his golden years. It wasn't going to be easy, but they were determined.
A loving mama adopted Victor. Not only does Victor have a forever home now, but he also has two furry siblings: a doggy and a friendly bunny.
