An Orange Country dog food company called OC Raw Dog found a disturbing element in their products. Now they vow to change their ways. See how it all began.
The California-based company called OC Raw Dog food company found out that it’s 2,055 pounds of dog food may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism, which according to the company officials, “…can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” Salmonella can also affect dogs as it is known to cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
According to the dog food company officials, their 6 1/2-pound packages of Doggie Dozens Patties and 5-found packages of Bulk Bags distributed in Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Colorado and sold through independent pet stores could contain salmonella. Upon the detection of salmonella through a routine testing undertaken by the Nebraska Department of Food and Agriculture, the food company vowed to change its ways.
Late last week, the dog food company issued a voluntary recall to alert its consumers regarding the packages that are marked with lot number 1511 and have an expiration date of Oct. 8, which may be contaminated with salmonella. According to a news release issued by the firm, “OC Raw Dog has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continues their investigation as to what caused the problem. We will be making several changes to our methods of production in order to further protect the product we so firmly believe in.“
Customers who have recently purchased the recalled product are requested by the company to submit a picture of the package with the lot number to Olivia@ocrawdog.com. Recalled product purchases should then be returned to the retailer so that a refund or replacement product is handed out. The OC Raw Dog food company can be reached Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-844-215-3647.
