While the day is filled with fun and excitement for humans, for our dogs, that day is filled with stress, anxiety, and dangers.
As dog parents, we need to make sure that either our dogs are with us in a safe place, away from all the chaos, or they’re in a safe place with someone they trust, if you’re unable to be with them. Then again, wouldn’t it be fun to celebrate Independence Day with our dogs? Here are some tips to ensure your dogs enjoy the 4th of July as much as you do! Here’s Part 1, in case you missed it.
1. DON’T leave the doors and windows open
Of course, it’s an exciting day, the 4th of July, but don’t forget to make sure the doors and windows are firmly locked so your dog won’t run for their lives during fireworks. If you have guests over, make sure they know to close the door behind them so your dog won’t escape. If you feel that this is something you can’t control, please put your dogs in their crates with plenty of water, toys, and snacks.
2. DO make sure their ID is up to date
This is extremely important in case your dog does manage to escape. Make sure your dog’s collar has your phone number, their name, and a current address, if possible. It’s always best to microchip your dog and make sure their ID is up to date so they can be located without wasting any precious time.
3. DO board them with a reputable boarding facility
If you know for sure that you can’t avoid chaos and fireworks show, it’s best to board your dogs. Let them stay with a reputable boarding facility so they can be away from the unnecessary stress that the 4th of July can place on them. This way, you can have fun, and they can too! When you board them, please make sure that you tell them your dog’s history, medications, and anything else they may need to know to make sure your dog’s stay is as smooth as possible.
