Dogs have been proven to provide benefits to the health of those around them for years. But a recent study indicates this is even more effective than we thought, as dogs may be able to lower the risk of type 1 diabetes in children.
When kids come into contact with dogs as babies, the babies are less likely to wind up developing this disease. The study was conducted on 3,000 children with a high risk of diabetes development. Horses, cats, and other animals were also used, but only kids who were exposed to dogs before the age of one saw their risk reduced.
This is far from the first time dogs have been found to provide such unbelievable benefits to the people around them. Previous studies show that dogs can reduce the risk of inflammation of the airways, leading to a lowered risk of allergy development. But that’s not all – dogs can also help kids with autism with socialization and confidence.
Dogs provide countless other health benefits to their owners and families. They are slowly learning to use their noses to detect breast cancer, they have helped with bone cancer vaccination studies, and they have a 98% accuracy rate in detecting prostate cancer.
