Fido boy is a happy pup exploring his surroundings, just loving to discover the new things, sounds, and smells. Well, his adventure discovered him one really special smell when he had an unpleasant close encounter with the skunk. And you know what it means. A fight with this terrible smell you feel will never get out of your boy’s fur.
Skunks are the most active at dusk and dawn and those are the times to keep an extra eye on your dog to avoid the scary situation like Fido had. Sometimes you will be alerted of the skunk presence with the smell around, sometimes there will be no warning. Also, skunks will not spray until they feel threatened.
If it still happens, just like it did with Fido, the skunk will most probably spray on the common areas like chest and head. Unless it went into the dog’s eyes, in which case the veterinarian assistance would be needed immediately, there are effective home remedies to help you get your boy clean and get rid of the revolting smell.
There are many products in store you can buy to help you neutralize the smell, however, as recommended by Fido after his own experience, as well a professional groomer, vanilla extract or apple cider vinegar mixed with water would do a miracle job. Fido’ s recommendation is to try to be still and let it soak into the fur for about ten minutes, then follow with fun part, the bath!
