Squishy, a senior rescue dog, has proven that age is never an excuse not to improve one’s health. Although the decision to lose weight wasn’t a choice she had a say in, she put in the necessary work to make it happen.
Jimmy Shiba, a personal trainer, adopted Squishy from Muttville, a senior dog rescue organization. When Jimmy adopted her, she weighed 59 pounds and took different medications for her joints. Since Jimmy was a trainer and described himself as “a transformation specialist,” it wasn’t a surprise that when he adopted Squishy, he would be committed to helping her become healthy.

Squishy’s journey to losing weight began with a daily routine of early morning walks with her dad. Initially, the walks started with a little hitch as she would stubbornly sit down before they had reached their home. It took some time, but Squishy began making progress.

Before they started the training, she couldn’t climb up the stairs, but after some weeks, she was able to, and a year later, she was already setting records. “Squishy dominating the stairs with a 20-second record! Great job Squishy!!! Down from 45 seconds on her first try from last year!!,” Jimmy captioned a video on Instagram showing Squishy running up the stairs.
It’s been three years since Squishy started her fitness journey, and she has achieved her goal. The cute pup now weighs 30 pounds and is so energetic.
