911 dispatchers with the Lakeville Police Department were stumped when they started receiving a string of strange calls on Thursday. The first one came in, and when picked up, there was nothing but silence in response.
Officer Emily Bares and Officer Michelle Roberts soon responded to the call and arrived at the home it had come from. In the time it had taken them to get there, a surprising three more calls to 911 had been made from the same number, and in some dogs could be heard barking very close by, but there were no other noises.
The officers found the home locked up and it appeared to be empty, but they knew from details of the calls that this could not be true. Still, there was nothing they could do, so after searching around the property turned up no clues, they left.
But more calls kept coming, so Roberts decided to return on her own. She was concerned that there was a person who was continually calling the number inside the home and was unable to speak. She managed to get a phone number of the owner of the home and even got a garage code.
So Roberts opened the garage – and what she saw was unexpected. Remy the hound mix and Bomber the Papillon pup were there, looking nervous when she entered. But within a minute or so, they were hurrying up to her and asking to be pet! She decided to look inside the home and see what she could find – and that’s when she discovered a cell phone on emergency call only mode in the home office.
It’s believed that the pups had managed to get onto the table or use their paws or noses to accidentally push the call button. It’s such a far-fetched story that even the pups’ family couldn’t believe it when they were told! The attention-seeking dogs had managed to call 911 16 times.
Roberts was definitely baffled by this turn of events, but she is happy that there was no emergency and that everything was okay. I guess some pups really will go to any lengths to get some love!
