There is not a lot of information about the novel coronavirus and our canine companions. Some news articles have said there are cases where pet parents had their dogs test positive, and other reports say there are no canine cases to date.
Recently, however, according to some sources, a positive case of coronavirus has been identified in a canine companion living in Georgia. This case is the second positive canine case in the United States of America. It is also believed that the precious pooch has, in fact, contracted the virus from his parents. In this particular case, the dog was euthanized because of an unrelated neurological condition from which he had been suffering.
Although this woof was not displaying any coronavirus related symptoms (such a respiratory illness), the tests were done out of protocol as a cautionary measure. This case is interesting to us, as the pooch had no symptoms at all, leaving us wondering if our dogs could be infected without us even knowing.
The availability and validity of information related to the coronavirus and our dogs is still sitting in a rather grey area, with most of us unsure whether our four-legged family members are at risk or not. This reality is not a pleasant one for any dog-loving parent, but it remains important to follow the government regulations to protect ourselves, others around us, and our favorite fluffy faced family members. When we look out for one another we can help fight the spread of the virus together!
