At the renowned Betty Ford Hospital in New York, a trio of healers work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day every week. They have specific rounds each day and specific duties for individual patients and they do it all for free. Their names are Irish, Toby and Kerry; a Golden Retriever and 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
“The dogs provide comfort, joy and safety for our patients,” said Stacey Petrie, a long-time employee of the Center. “Irish has been here a couple of years and we recently added Toby and Kerry. They have done more for our patients than one can imagine. Kerry and Toby are an intricate part of our therapy. They are sweet in temperament and small in size so they sit on our patients laps and calm them down. They are very intuitive.”
