We have forever been warned about leaving our dogs trapped inside cars, but some of us just don’t listen, or simply don’t care, or think that nothing can go wrong because they were only to leave them in the car for a couple of seconds.
We have covered many, many articles about leaving dogs inside hot cars, and from personal experiences, even for humans, sitting inside a hot car for a couple of minutes can leave us panting and dehydrated. If you think that taking your dog with you is not an option, please leave them at home, and if that’s not possible and leaving them elsewhere is not an option, leave the air-conditioning switched on if you leave them in the car, provided that you’ll be gone for less than 5 minutes.
A mother and daughter were visiting a local grocery store when they noticed a crowd gathering around a car. On closer inspection, they saw a dog was in the car out of breath and panting from the heat. The store was notified, and they tried to contact the owners for over half an hour. Without a response, a man smashed one of the windows and potentially saved this dog’s life. The owners eventually showed up and police arrived on the scene. The authorities, however, agreed that the man’s action was the right call to make and gave the owners a warning.
This story is a reminder of how important it is to take our dogs into consideration when we have them with us in our cars. We surely have a responsibility to keep them as safe as possible, especially when we control their environment.
