Have You Ever Wondered If Dog Treats Had An Expiration Date?

Just as the quality of our food is important to our health, so is a dog’s food important to his. Old or semi-decayed food can harbor a whole lot of nasty disease-causing pathogens and thus, it is vitally important to ensure that food is as fresh as possible or well-sealed.

Dog treats are used for various reasons, from encouraging our favorite furry faces to perform tricks to simply spoiling them after a hard day of play. We want the best for our canine companions, and so we must ensure that the food or treats that we provide are not harmful to them in any way.

Dog treats are often a cause for concern as our dogs sometimes take a few days to consume them, chewing them over time. The best invention for prolonging the life of treats is the freezer! Fruit bits and basically all treats can be frozen and simply defrosted when necessary. Alternatively, it is best to keep treats such as jerky in a dark, dry place where they will be fine for a few months as long as they are properly sealed.

Humidity is the killer here and should be avoided at all costs as fungi thrive in heat and damp. Bully sticks are a great treat for dogs as they last a long time and remain fresh for a number of years providing endless enjoyment for your furry pal. All biodegradable foods have a shelf life and so one of the most important things to do is to read the fine print on the package when purchasing!
