Everyone wants to be a dog’s favorite person. It seems easy to make that happen: shower them with attention, love, and food. But sometimes, there’s just that one person a dog goes nuts for that they barely even see! So what’s the deal?
To begin with, early socialization plays a huge role. In the first six months of life, a puppy’s brains develop very quickly and are extremely receptive to input. As such, the experiences they have then will have a huge influence on them. This means that a dog who was raised by a woman or two would be more comfortable around women naturally, and vice versa.
In addition, no matter how much you feed, walk, fulfill the needs of your dog, your dog is still going to gravitate towards the person who gives them love and affection. So if you’re doling out the meals but someone else is showering them with cuddles, a dog is more likely to prefer the person who snuggles with them.
Dogs also learn a lot through positive association. There could be something that a particular person provides that other people simply do not or cannot.
If you want to be the favorite person of your dog, make sure you’re spending a minimum of half an hour of totally focused, personal one-on-one time and love with your dog on a daily basis!
